Options trading platform or options analytics platform?

An options trading platform is where you place orders: a broker such as Tastytrade, thinkorswim, Interactive Brokers, Schwab, Robinhood or Webull that opens your account, sets your options approval level, routes the order, settles the trade and holds your money. An options analytics platform is the research layer you use before that decision. Realtime Options is the second kind. It is browser-based research software for US-listed stock and ETF options flow at $25 per month, it does not execute orders, it does not connect to a broker, and it never holds client funds.

What an options trading platform actually is

An options trading platform is a brokerage product. It opens and verifies your account, assigns an options approval level, accepts your order, routes it to an exchange or market maker, reports the fill, tracks positions and buying power, processes exercise and assignment, holds your cash and securities, and produces your tax documents at year end.

Only a firm registered to do those things can do them. Software that is not a broker cannot enter an order for you regardless of how detailed its analytics are, and any product implying otherwise is describing a broker integration it would have to disclose.

  • Account opening, identity verification and options approval level.
  • Order entry, routing, execution and fill reporting.
  • Position, margin and buying-power calculation.
  • Exercise, assignment and expiration processing.
  • Custody of cash and securities plus year-end tax reporting.
  • Entitled real-time quotes for accounts that qualify for them.

What an options analytics platform does instead

An options analytics platform is a research layer that never touches your account. Its job is to reduce a market of thousands of listed contracts to the few worth a closer look, then keep the evidence that could contradict a first impression within a click or two.

Realtime Options performs that job for US-listed stock and ETF options. Ten core dashboards cover market-wide weighted flow, sector and ticker rankings, premium heat by strike and expiry, Greeks by strike, 0DTE gamma exposure, contract-level premium development, flow-trend history, open-interest overlays and market news. Eight specialist research views add volume change, open-interest structure, swing-horizon context, conviction scanning, priced movement, gamma magnet levels, underlying price structure and historical flow analysis.

Every one of those views describes activity that has already printed. Which side initiated a trade is an estimate drawn from where the trade executed relative to the bid and ask, and gamma exposure is a model output rather than a level the market is obliged to respect.

  • Narrow the market: which tickers and sectors are carrying unusual premium today?
  • Locate the activity: which strikes and expiries is it concentrating in?
  • Test the reading: does open interest, price or a news item support or contradict it?
  • Place it in time: is this session unusual for this ticker, or ordinary?
  • Record the limits: what would have to be true for the obvious interpretation to be wrong?

How the two layers fit together

The research layer and the execution layer are used in sequence, and the handoff between them is manual on purpose. You read flow, exposure and context in the analytics platform, form a view, then enter any order yourself inside your broker.

There is no connection between Realtime Options and any brokerage account, no order-routing integration, and none is planned. That boundary is what keeps the product firmly on the research side of the line rather than in advice or execution territory.

  • Analytics layer: observe market-wide flow and establish the session backdrop.
  • Analytics layer: narrow to a small watchlist and inspect strike, expiry and exposure.
  • Analytics layer: check open interest, price behaviour and any scheduled catalyst.
  • You: decide whether the evidence justifies any action at all, including none.
  • Broker layer: size, enter, manage and close the position inside your own account.

Which layer owns which job

Most confusion in this category comes from treating the word platform as one thing. It is two, and the split is clean. This table names the job and the layer that owns it.

What Realtime Options does not do

Realtime Options is research and education software. It is not a broker-dealer, not a registered investment adviser, and nothing it publishes is personalised investment advice. It does not know your account, your risk tolerance or your tax position, and it is not built to.

The feature boundaries are equally specific, and stating them upfront is cheaper for both sides than discovering them after a signup.

  • No order entry, broker connectivity or automated execution.
  • No buy or sell signals, and no alerts presented as recommendations.
  • No public API and no mobile application; the product is responsive web only.
  • No options strategy builder or payoff-diagram tool.
  • No dark-pool equity data and no raw option-chain quote screen.
  • No backtesting engine and no published performance or win-rate claims.
  • No intraday open interest, because the OCC publishes open interest once daily after the close.

Coverage, data timing and price

Realtime Options runs on licensed third-party market data rather than a direct exchange feed, and the timing is stated rather than implied. Pro access is near real time; the trial is deliberately delayed by 15 minutes so it can be evaluated without an entitlement question.

Delayed data is enough to judge whether the workflow suits you. It is not execution timing, and it should not be used as though it were.

Questions people ask about this

Is Realtime Options a broker or a trading platform?

No. Realtime Options is an options analytics platform. It is not a broker-dealer and not a registered investment adviser, it does not accept or route orders, and it does not hold client cash or securities. You keep your existing brokerage account and use Realtime Options only for research.

Can I place options trades from the dashboards?

No. There is no order-entry surface and no broker connectivity in the product. Any trade you decide to make is entered by you, in your own brokerage account, under your own options approval level.

What is the difference between an options trading platform and an options analytics platform?

A trading platform is a brokerage product that executes and settles orders and holds your account. An analytics platform is research software that helps you study market activity before you decide anything. Most self-directed traders end up using one of each, because neither category does the other's job well.

Do I need a brokerage account to use Realtime Options?

Not to use the dashboards. You need a broker to trade, but the research layer works on its own and is also used by educators and independent analysts who are studying market activity rather than trading it.

Which options trading platform should I use?

Realtime Options does not recommend brokers and cannot assess which one suits your circumstances. Compare commission and per-contract fees, options approval levels, assignment handling, quote entitlements, platform stability and customer support directly with each firm, and read the OCC Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options before trading options at all.

How much does the analytics platform cost?

There is one plan: Pro at $25 per month with near-real-time data, cancellable at any time. Before that, a 7-day trial gives access to every dashboard on 15-minute delayed data with no credit card required.

Is the data real time?

Pro is near real time, sourced from licensed third-party market data rather than a direct exchange feed. The trial is 15-minute delayed. Neither is a substitute for the entitled real-time quotes your broker provides for order placement.
